How to Use CQ Researcher
For comprehensive analysis on newsworthy issues, use CQ Researcher. Each report in CQ Researcher is on a single subject, and provides in-depth and non-biased coverage of political and social issues. Often there are updates to these reports. All are written by journalists and provide a background, chronology, assessment of the issue, tables, maps, pro/con statements and bibliographies of key sources.
The most recent issues are posted on CQ's front page. Use the search box for keyword searches of your topic. For example, a keyword search of kyoto protocol produces these results (the first four results are shown). The "score" indicates which reports are more pertinent to your research, with a higher score being best.
Once a report is selected, you can:
Read it online, either in its entirety, or by jumping to the sections you wish to read. You can also view it in a PDF format by choosing this option once you are looking at the report. There is a PDF icon in the top right corner. Print a copy of the report by selecting the print icon from the top right corner. You can also just print off a certain section of the report. If you print it in the Library, there is a 10 cent per page fee. E-mail a section, or the entire report, by selecting the e-mail icon from the top right corner.
Other ways to search:
Browse the reports by date, or topic. There is also a PDF index of all topics, from 1991 to the present, if you wish to print it off and browse in this fashion.
Coming Up: This menu choice indicates future reports and when they will be published.
In the News: This menu choice provides current news abstracts, with links to applicable reports.
How to Cite: This provides examples on how to cite reports in CQ Researcher, using a variety of formats. You can also choose CiteNow! from a specific report, and CQ will automatically list the citation in the APA format. If you need a different format, simply select the one you wish to use, and CQ will cite your report in that format for you.
