Does the Library have eBooks? Yes!
The Library has been quietly building a collection of eBooks to accommodate you during all those times when the Library building is not where you are, and to facilitate the use of electronic reserves. We now have over 1,000 50,000 eBooks!
Featured on the Library’s Databases Page you will find many collections of Reference Handbooks and Subject Encyclopedias, and other scholarly and academic eBooks. This spring, we have purchased our first ebrary eBooks. All of the library’s ebooks are cataloged and linked to from Albert.
Here’s a selective listing of the eBook collections listed on the Library’s Databases Page
- ABC-Clio eBooks. 48 titles published within the last 10 years. Primarily handbooks that provide an overview of history and social sciences topics, such as Girlhood in America: an encyclopedia, Encyclopedia of the Vietnam War: A Political, Social, and Military History.
- AccessScience. The McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, and their Yearbooks and related sources.
- Blackwell Reference Online. About 100 titles, including major reference works Blackwell Encyclopedia of Sociology and the International Encyclopedia of Communication along with Blackwell Handbooks and Companions in many disciplines: Adolescence, Anthropology, Childhood, Counseling, Criminal Justice, Education, Human Development, Medical Sociology, Politics, Research Methods, Social Theory, Sociology
- ebrary Ebrary Academic Complete is a highly interactive eBook database from ebrary that covers all academic subject areas. The collection currently includes more than 30,000 titles from more than 220 of the world's leading academic, STM, and professional publishers.
- Gale Virtual Reference Library. Nearly 300 titles, primarily multi-volume major reference works. All disciplines represented. A few random highlights: International Encyclopedia of Marriage and Family, Encyclopedia of Race and Racism, Encyclopedia of Bioethics, New Catholic Encyclopedia, Historical Dictionary of Pakistan, Modern American Literature, West's Encyclopedia of American Law, Business Plans Handbook.
- Greenwood Digital Collection. About 100 titles, both reference works and scholarly books. Includes Greenwood Encyclopedias of Children’s Issues and World Popular Culture. Culture, History, Social Issues, Medicine, Education and more.
- New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics. “This new edition retains the inspiring tradition of bringing together the world's most influential economists writing in their own voice on their areas of expertise, but in its online incarnation it has married this tradition with the benefits of a dynamic, updated resource serving the information needs of a new generation of economists.” Contains the full text of the 8 volume print edition.
- Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy. REP Online includes the full content of the 10-volume print set and each year adds newly commissioned entries by leading scholars.
- Shakespeare Survey Online. Shakespeare Survey is a yearbook of Shakespeare studies and production, with 61 volumes published since 1948. Each volume is devoted to a theme, or play, or group of plays; each also contains a section of reviews of that year's textual and critical studies, and of the year's major British performances
- SpringerLink. We have recently expanded the SpringerLink journals collection with about 100 Springer Behavioral Sciences, Counseling, Psychology and Health titles. A representative selection: Development of emotions and emotion regulation, Handbook of intellectual and developmental disabilities, Identifying, assessing, and treating autism at school, Indigenous and cultural psychology understanding people in context, Narrowing the achievement gap strategies for educating Latino, Black and Asian students.
