off-site storage retrieval service
Planning for a new or expanded library has been put on hold and it has been necessary to store some books and bound periodicals in an off-site storage facility. Datasafe, a records-storage facility located in San Francisco, has been selected because of its close proximity and our ability to retrieve books stored there.
Approximately 25,000 books purchased prior to 1998 that have not circulated in the last 7 years have been sent to off-site storage. These books can be found in Albert, the online catalog, with the location "Off-Site Storage." In addition, approximately 40,000 additional titles were stored during Phase I of our Storage Project. These books were purchased prior to 1983 and are not represented in Albert. These titles may be located in the Library’s card catalog on the first floor of the Library.
If the book you need cannot be found in the stacks, please use the "Request for Retrieval From Storage" online form below. Books can usually be retrieved within 3-4 business days. Anyone who has a current library card may request that items be retrieved from storage. Alumni or our friends from the community who wish access to an item in storage may purchase a library card at the Circulation Desk.
To request a book, complete the online form. To request an article, it is generally quicker to use ILLiad, our electronic Interlibrary Borrowing Service. For questions about this service, please read our FAQs or call the Circulation Desk at (925) 631 - 4229.
