link+
Link+ is a consortium of 50+ academic and public libraries within California and Nevada that provides a single searchable catalog and user-initiated borrowing service. Items that are not owned by Saint Mary's College may be requested online and will be delivered by a daily (Monday-Friday) van service.
Current Saint Mary's College faculty, students, and staff may request items through Link+ using the 14-digit barcode on the back of their SMC ID card. Patrons are automatically logged in after making their first request in the Link+ catalog. After that patrons can make multiple requests without having to re-enter their name and barcode information. Patrons should remember to log-out when they are finished. They will automatically be logged-out after three minutes of keyboard inactivity.
The time between making a request for an available item and its arrival at the SMC Library is approximately 4 business days. Items must be picked-up at the Circulation Desk within 10 days. Books have a 21-day loan period with a 2-week renewal (if there are no holds on the item). Media items will have either a 7-day/no renewal loan period, or a 21-day loan period with a 2-week renewal (if there are no holds on the item). Please check the due date to determine the loan period of your media item.
The overdue fine for items returned after the due date is $1.00 per day per item. Replacement costs for Link+ items is $100.00 per item, plus a $15.00 billing fee, for a total of $115.00 per item.
Checking Status of Link+ Request
Requests may be monitored by checking your patron record on Albert. Click My Albert Account/Renew on the homepage. Link+ requests are listed under holds. When the status is listed as Link+ Recv'd the item is ready for pickup.
Visiting Patron
Patrons may borrow directly from participating libraries through Visiting Patron. At the participating library, locate the items you wish to borrow and take them to the Circulation Desk. Present your SMC ID card and let the staff at the participating library know that you're a Saint Mary's College patron. The same loan periods apply. All conditions-of-use are the same as standard Link+ service. Items may be returned to the library from which they were borrowed or to Saint Mary's College Library.
Pick-Up-Elsewhere
Patrons have the option of having their Link+ items delivered to a location more convenient for them, such as San Jose State, San Francisco State, and more. After locating and requesting an item through the Link+ catalog, the option to choose a Pick-Up Institution is located at the bottom of the screen. All locations listed participate in Pick-Up Elsewhere. At the pick-up location, present an SMC ID card for verification and the item will be checked-out directly. Items can be returned to the pick-up location, Saint Mary's College Library, or to any other participating library in the Link+ consortium. The same loan periods apply. All conditions-of-use are the same as standard Link+ service.
