Document/Distance delivery (DD)
What is Document/Distance Delivery?
Document Delivery is a service that provides electronic access to articles in print periodicals owned by SMC Library, and provides home delivery of SMC Library books. (ILLiad and Link+ books are not included; contact ILB for details).
Who is eligible for this service?
-All current SMC Faculty and Graduate students.
-Distance learners, i.e.
-students who do not regularly attend classes on campus.
-students who live more than 25 miles away from campus.
How do I request DD?
Check the catalog first; you may be able to access your journal article electronically. Submit requests through ILLiad. Indicate in the Notes field that you are requesting Document Delivery.
What can and cannot be requested?
Document Delivery consists of Articles and Loans.
Copies of articles and papers in the Library's print collections can be delivered to your ILLiad account. Generally copies are not mailed, but exceptions may be made for special circumstances. All copies become the property of the patron and do not need to be returned to the Library. Due to copyright restrictions we cannot copy entire issues of journals, proceedings, standards, etc. Interlibrary Loan and Link + books cannot be mailed. Materials from the Library's circulating collection may be borrowed. Fragile items may be excluded from this service at the Library's discretion. Materials will be shipped by UPS. The patron is responsible for return shipping of borrowed items.
How do I get my requested items?
-Articles are scanned and posted online. You are notified by email when they are available to be accessed.
- Books are checked out to you and sent via UPS, standard shipping, to your home. You must provide a street address (not a P.O. Box). Books must be returned by UPS, or by insured mail. There is a limit of three books mailed per month per student.
How long does it take to get materials?
-Articles are made available usually within 24 hours (except weekends).
-Books will arrive at your home usually within a week.
How long can I keep books? Can they be renewed?
The loan period for SMC Library books is 4 weeks. Two renewals of 4 weeks each are allowed. However, after 2 weeks all loans are subject to recall.
To request a renewal go to My Albert Account/Renew on the Library's homepage.
